APP MAGAZINE LAYOUT DESIGN NEWS | HEALTHCARE
ZMK is a publication of the Spitta Verlag GmbH & Co. KG in Balingen, Germany’s leading media company for dental medicine. The print magazine comes out ten times a year. I was responsible for an app magazine layout design including technical implementation for the Apple iPad. I adapted the existing print magazine layout design for tablet screens, designed a consistent button scheme as well as a logical navigation system in order to maximize user friendliness. In addition to that, I placed useful interactive functions that smartly support the content and the reading flow. This new tablet magazine shall help Spitta increase the advertisement revenue and strengthen the market position of ZMK.
A special feature in the magazine layout design of ZMK is a rounded corner on pictures and video placeholders. This was consistently implemented throughout the whole tablet magazine layout design.
Interactive buttons in the colour of the category come with logical symbols to support the user friendliness. Besides that, rounded corners remind of the Spitta logo that also shows rounded corners. This is how buttons are subtly embedded into the magazine layout design of the app magazine. Navigation buttons show the reader how to get to the next page or to the beginning of the article for example.
For the typography scheme, I created a semantic matrix after Beinert which supports a great usage of various fonts. All fonts of the Frutiger LT family are true type fonts which are perfectly suited for digital usage on screens or displays. Frutiger LT transports a feeling of objectivity and clarity (perfect for the dental medicine business) and offers a pleasant reading flow.
