BIG DATA VISUALIZATION - SMARTPHONE REPAIR STUDY 2020

After the Smartphone Repair Study 2019 by WERTGARANTIE (Hanover, Germany), we also visualized the following study from 2020 with numerous infographic designs and created the layout of the study report for national and international journalists and press representatives.

​

The survey, carried out in cooperation with Statista among 5,166 participants, shows a variety of exciting aspects of repairs to different smartphones. In the design process, special attention was paid to comparing key figures between 2019 and 2020. This made the infographic design more complex, but also more meaningful.

MAIN REASONS FOR SMARTPHONE REPAIR:

ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENT ARE DETERMINING FACTORS

​

Most important reasons for repairs: economic efficiency and sustainability. The notion of having a spare telephone is becoming significantly irrelevant.

REASONS FOR REPAIR BY BRAND:

THINKING GREEN IS MORE AND MORE DECISIVE

When it comes to devices from Samsung and Apple, environment is the crucial factor, while economic efficiency is most important only to Apple users.

GENERAL TREND TOWARDS RESTORATION:

APPLE USERS ARE EXTREMELY WILLING TO REPAIR

Overall, repairs are commissioned much more often: Apple is clearly ahead, followed by LG, Sony and Huawei. The desire for repairs is also increasing among many brands.

FREQUENCY OF DROP DAMAGE WITH AND WITHOUT PROTECTIVE MEASURES:

OVERALL, DAMAGE FIGURES HAVE DRAMATICALLY DROPPED

LG, Xiaomi and Apple in particular are affected significantly less often regardless of the protection. Nokia and Sony alone have more drop damage than in the previous year.

PROTECTIVE MEASURES ACCORDING TO BRAND:

BEST PROTECTED: XIAOMI, APPLE AND HUAWEI

The majority of Xiaomi, Apple and Huawei users take protective measures. Sony, LG and Nokia users do so much less often.

QUALITY OF WORKMANSHIP BY MANUFACTURER:

XIAOMI AGAIN AT THE FRONT

Xiaomi wins here too and clearly relegates Apple and Samsung to second and third place respectively. Less impressive: Nokia, HTC and LG.

OVERALL SCORE OF SELECTED MANUFACTURERS:

SONY CLEAR OVERALL WINNER

​

Sony was able to significantly top its previous year‘s result, while Apple only achieved 5th place.

OVERALL MUCH MORE ROBUST

The need for repairs has decreased significantly for all manufacturers. Sony takes first place again, closely followed by Huawei and Samsung.

DREAM RESULT FOR SONY

​

A top mark for Sony, but repair costs have also decreased at Huawei and Samsung. Apple, on the other hand, does worse than last year.
